Not-So Daily Kpop Challenge 2019 – Part VI

[30 Day K-Pop Challenge 2019]

Question #12: The very first k-pop song that got you hooked into k-pop

The original question was actually, The very first k-pop song you ever heard. Well, this answer will never change for any of us taking part in this challenge the 2nd/3rd time around. 🙂

I am changing it to the first song which got me totally hooked in this entire world of k-pop. That one song which had me researching for more and more k-pop songs on YouTube. And that would be…

EXO’s otherworldly superpower theme (which we still see in most of their videos since then), really appealed to me. The song itself was energetic, dark and filled with angst. I was impressed! MAMA is still one of my favorite EXO songs ever to this day.

Question #13: A k-pop group/artist you recently discover

I changed this question as the original was, A k-pop group you dislike and why. My answer hasn’t changed either – there’s no k-pop group/artist I find myself disliking enough to rant about.

TAEYEON is not a new artist. Not by far. She debuted with Girls’ Generation in 2007 and has since become quite the solo artist. While I heard of her (a lot – she’s quite popular), I hadn’t had a chance to dive into her music. And my discovery of her was quite accidental.

I was browsing through YouTube when I discovered her official Disney/Vevo music video where she performed the OST, Into the Unkown, for the upcoming movie, Frozen 2. First of all, I was impressed Disney had the sense to branch out to international artists. I believe this will be released with the Korean soundtrack.

Secondly, TAEYEON’s voice! Oh wow! Her voice is so strong and crystal clear. It wasn’t long before I started to stream her latest album, Purpose. I can’t say there’s one song on the entire 10-track album I dislike. Here I Am, the first track, set the bar pretty high, but the rest of the album didn’t disappoint. The sound is very blues and jazz, so it may only appeal to those with that specific taste. However, this is a great one to listen to during the colder months. It has that beautifully haunting sound to chill out with.

Question #14: A k-pop song that makes you smile

This one goes with what currently has made me smile… a lot!

How can one not like this song? It’s catchy, the vibe is carefree… I mean, every time I hear this song I am back in a night club when I was in my 20’s dancing in the middle of a packed large dance floor until 2AM in the morning.

[Here’s my original answers from the first time I did this challenge.]
