sometimes i sing while i shop

while at chapters the other day with chaeli (shopping for her secret santa gift exchange as well as presents for her teachers), the store happened to be playing You’re Beautiful by james blunt. and so i sang along.

after singing the entire chorus, i looked up and realized i had a bit of an audience. a man, about my age (early 40’s) was staring at me. when he realized i caught him, he looked away.

i shrugged it off and continued singing.

but then as i walked away, i had to wonder to myself, was my singing that bad? did he think i was weird to be singing out loud like that? maybe he was just glad some one else likes james blunt? maybe… he’s a serial killer plotting his next move! yikes!

he had a very serious look to him after all.

that or he wasn’t happy shopping. i noticed he was following what i assume was his girlfriend or wife, toting around one of those shopping baskets on wheels.

anyway, it’s a lovely song. it deserves to be played more often in stores. i find that it soothes me. and soothing customers brings down their guard – they just might stick around longer, take their time to browse and end up buying something.

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I’m sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won’t lose no sleep on that,
‘Cause I’ve got a plan.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.

Yes, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Flying high.
And I don’t think that I’ll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last ’til the end.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it’s time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.
