QotD: Scary Movie

What's your favorite horror movie of all-time?

well, for me, i think this question should be changed from 'favourite' to 'most horrifying' simply because i would never say that a horror movie is a favourite. even within it's own genre.

i'm a big scaredy-cat – you know, with the type of imagination that can get out of control!

there are two movies in the past decades i will list as the scariest. i would probably list a lot more except that i don't watch a lot of horror movies (doug doesn't like sleeping with the bed-side lamp on and after i watch a scary movie, i usually insist of leaving that light on for at least three weeks – which is exactly why he won't let me watch horror movies):

blair witch had me almost sleep deprived for weeks. psychological fear is far worse for me and this film just made me feel uncomfortable for the whole time. the documentary style also made it seem too real. which is why i won't be watching paranormal activity. ever!

the ring – holy shit. what the hell? it took weeks before i could walk past a tv normally. whose cruel idea was it to make such a movie? of course, i blame japan. they keep on coming up with these insanely scary movies of which the americans feel a need to re-create and freak the shit out of all of us. which is also why i won't watch ring-u. simply because the original is always crazier.

there's one movie from highschool in which i can't shake. i don't know how popular it was but there is one part of the movie that just does it for me. it's a dream sequence which all the characters get – but the dream is a like a low-quality video recording sent from the future. you see this grainy footage of a figure coming out of the church and this is suppose to be the anti-christ. all the while, a reporter is speaking and the whole thing is just eerie! the movie was called prince of darkness.

other movies i have not watched but have been freaked out from the trailers alone – REC (quarantine was based off of this movie), paranormal activity, amityville, the grudge, exorcist (any of the exorcist movie), and saw (any of the saw flicks).

QotD: Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. What frustrates you the most about the way we treat the earth? What are you doing to fix it?

well, the list would be dreadfully long. and it is difficult to pick out just one thing.

but i'll concentrate on one of the 'small stuff' because sometimes, it's the grand total of all the small stuff that makes a significant difference. actually, not sometimes… ALL the time.

people who don't recycle.

specifically, people at work who have a blue box and trash can right by their sitting area and because the garbage is closer, they just can't be bothered to chuck that piece of paper or empty pop can into the recycle bin.

i mean… give me a break!

i use to work with a co-workers who was horrible this way!

the blue box! it's RIGHT THERE! by your desk!

it's a combination of being lazy and indifferent to a growing problem – as well as not realize that it's also their problem as well since it's their earth, too.

QotD: Can’t Stop Listening to…

Today is Repeat Day, so we want to know: what song do you have currently have on repeat? Bonus points if you share it with us!

it's all about 'viva la vida' by coldplay at the moment.

i have it loaded on my mp3 player, the cd playing in my car and my computer at home.

in fact, i'm listening to it right now as i type this.

at home, i have it on repeart so much that it's driving doug insane. we share different computers at home (doug's not a geek but chaeli and i are, and i think that it is my responsibility as a parent to show chaeli how important it is to have a different computer from one's husband – and to make sure that your own computer is by far more powerful then his) but they are in the same office. when it comes to whose music we listen to, i usually win because he likes country and i simply am totally NOT country.

i could go into how his personality plays second nature to the word 'country' and i am more the city-girl, urbanite type. but that's another story for another time.

anyway, the issue here is that i can put a song or whole album on repeat if it's somewhat new and i need to over-kill it before i can move on to something else. doug is different. he needs variety. constantly. it drives him insane on road trips when i insist on listening to any latest album three times in a row.

for those that have not taken advantage of it, go to coldplay's site to download their latest album for free.

QotD: Inauguration Day

President-elect Barack Obama is being sworn into office today. Where are you watching the events of this historic day unfold?

at my gym.

unlike the 33% of canadians that actually took the day off just to watch the inauguration, i still had to go to work. so, what i did was rush off to the gym during my lunch break and made it just in time to see him get sworn in.

i usually am plugged into my mp3 player but i guess you could say that i was sweating to the sounds of obama, instead.

what a good way to work out.

nothing gets you motivated into pushing yourself harder then listening to such a powerful speech.

QotD: Over-Easy Like Sunday Morning

What's your favorite thing to eat for Sunday breakfast/brunch?

well, i am a sucker for egg's bennie on hashbrown. but it's not just what i eat, it's what accompanies it. sometimes, it also depends on where the brunch is held. and the people that i share my brunch experience with.

first of all… if it's coffee, it had better be pretty damn good coffee. and better yet, once in awhile, i treat myself to mimosa. especially if we're dining out.

as for where, well… is a cold, wintery day where getting there is half the battle but when we do, that first cup of hot coffee just makes it so worth it? or perhaps a beautiful fall morning of walking through the park and then ending up at the restaurant inside said park for a big meal? or maybe it's a beautiful summer type patio atmosphere where we get to wear shades while eating our brunch?

lastly, who i am with can make the meal extra special. i have to admit our favourite people to find new brunch places with is with ada/hoa. with them, we seem to be introduced to new gems over and over again. thank goodness for that!

sometimes, though, just being at home and having brunch with doug and chaeli on a quiet sunday can be just what i need before a very busy week ahead.

QotD: Lifestyles of the Rich ~or~ Famous

Would you rather be rich or famous? Why?
Submitted by Chris Vaughn.

hands down, i would way rather be rich then famous.

yes, i understand that one should be content with what one has. that being rich does not solve everything. but…

it sure wouldn't hurt!

i wouldn't be just sitting on a yacht, lounging my day away. i would try to be down to earth, quiet and spending my time with charity organizations as well as donating yearly, to certain charities. i would try to live my life so that no one even notices that i'm rich.

the real true reason of wanting to fall upon gobs of mola is simply that i just want a financially secure future. i have anxiety attacks that i won't be able to make it so that chaeli can live a comfortable life and afford to go to university, and that doug and i will be able to retire comfortably. these days, being just 'okay' doesn't seem good enough. if people were to look around at our global situations, the middle class is quickly being cut out. there is a fear that the future will contain an all-or-none situation – rich or poor. which would anyone choose?

having said that, since i'm advocating that i want to be down to earth and not noticed at all, i would hate to be famous. oh sure… i've daydreamed about what it would be like to be famous for a day but it comes with too many cons for my liking. famous people have very little privacy. it's a bit scary – i don't think, psychologically, that i could handle it.

QotD: Looking Back…

What part of your childhood do you miss the most?
Submitted by Maretta.

my grandmother.

she lived with us which worked out really well since both my parents had to work full-time (coming to Canada, they had only $1000 between them, my grandmother and my aunt).

we were like two peas in a pod, her and i. she made me feel safe and loved. i don't feel i was as great back to her as i should have been… but my happy childhood moments do involve much of my memories of her.

my po-po was the best. i miss her so much – not a day goes by where i don't feel like i carry her in my heart.

it hurts, sometimes, when i sit there and let myself miss her fully, thinking of how much i wish she were still with us. i wish she could meet doug. i wish she could meet chaeli. i know she would love them with all her heart.

i don't know if i believe in heaven or not. but sometimes, i want to believe in it… just so i can feel the comforts in knowing that she is up there looking down at us. and in her own way, she has met her great-grandchild.
