chaeli snippets…

another random update (though this one is about chaeli)… and almost one week apart. it's a sure sign of how busy i've been lately… *sigh* well, here it goes…

  • chaeli's fourth birthday passed. it was a quiet birthday since we're having a private party at an indoor, children's playground facility in another week. she got her presents from the immediate family, which is more then enough for her. plus, i dropped off 24 mini chocolate cupcakes (the kind that takes just two bites) at her daycare. they brought it out, with a lit candle on hers, during afternoon snack. the whole class sang happy birthday to her.

  • do-do day finally arrived for us. what i mean is… doing number two is finally happening in the potty… NOT a diaper. and it just happened – like that. she woke up a day after she turned four and just made the executive decision that she was too old for diapers. JUST. LIKE. THAT. a huge 180 from just a day before.

  • school is going well for chaeli – she's been transitioned over to the kindergarten program. they spent two mornings bringing her there as a 'visitor'. but by her third day, they decided to let her stay the entire day. piece 'o cake – she was fine. in fact, she was excited! coming home has been just a whirlwind of talking as she tells us the day's events. we'll see if this excitement continues or when she'll realize that she's no longer with her pre-school friends. still… 'little z', her best friend and boyfriend (whom she claims she's going to marry), still runs up to chaeli when he sees her in the halls to give her a big hug! it's the sweetest thing!

  • we've dragged the girl out twice this weekend to play in the snow (well, doug did… i stayed in where it was nice and warm – ha!) and man, is there a hell of a lot of snow lately! we may even take her out to the park across from us, today, to do a big of sledding down the mini hill. in fact, i know we should. the fresh air will be good for all of us. though… i'll have to start the lasagna in the slow cooker before we head out.

  • yesterday morning, doug had to work (something i am not ready to talk about as both of us are mad that his manager cornered him into doing it). to my surprise, chaeli let me sleep in. i did hear her tip-toe into our bedroom in the wee hours in the morning. i don't even know what time it was, but i figured she was going to wake me up. an hour or so later, i woke up on my own to see  that she had curled in doug's side of the bed, all under the blankets and fast asleep. and i know it didn't take her long to fall asleep. i'm such a light sleeper that had she started to play in our room or toss and turn in bed, even, it would have woke me up. i went back to sleep only to be woken up later on, by two little hands pulling the cover back onto me (it had fallen off of me at some point). later on in the morning, i thanked chaeli for pulling the covers over me. she said, "i wanted you to be comfy, mommy." :-) well, if this is a peak of what a four year old is like – i'll be a happy camper!

weekend randomness

  • i spent all saturday afternoon cleaning the house, in time for a shower and to have some quality family-time with chaeli, before our robbie burns dinner. we did get through dinner, only to just finish on time for doug to get called into work on some emergency situation. granted, this was more of an emergency situation then the usual emergency situation but had there not been so many other emergency situations, i might have been more understanding and patient. i had planned on getting all the choirs and tasks done in the day so we could spend some much needed, quality time as a family in the evening. well, that didn't happen.
  • neither did it happen the next evening – doug got called back into work again. this time it was before we had dinner. but… he told them he wouldn't come in until after he finished eating. food was ready within half an hour and we sat and ate as a family, without being rushed. still… to have him away from us in the evening, again, on a weekend… not good at all. of course, being called away from work at any point of the weekend isn't good.
  • while doug did sleep in sunday morning (he didn't come back from the emergency, work situation until after 8am – yes that's 8 in the GOD DAMN MORNING), we were able to spend the afternoon together as a family. albeit we were so tired that by 2:30pm, we all went upstairs, popped in a dvd movie for chaeli, so both doug and i could catch up on some needed rest.
  • i mentioned to a friend that i'm trying really hard to make sure that everything during the week, and for most of saturday, gets done so that on sunday, nothing major needs my attention. it's my day of rest because i deserve it. i am proud to say that i did just that this sunday. i needed time to unwind because i have been going almost non-stop since coming back from our florida trip.
  • chaeli and i spent saturday morning doing lots of craft. we made a princess tiara and used some stencils to draw and colour with. have to say, i need to leave time for our craft time every sunday morning if i can. it's a great way to destress even though i'm just doing kids craft. plus, chaeli loves it! :) i need to bring out the easal again and let her do some painting. she misses it because they don't get a chance to do a lot of painting in class (some, but not as much as she's use to from her city classes). it's my fault – because painting takes more time to set up and clean up, i get a little lazy. but once every week or two is not that big of a deal. it's worth it.
  • i actually got a chance to catch up on some blog/vox readings within my neighbourhood while sipping on a much needed cup of tea. i can't explain how content i was to be doing something so simple!
  • watched a movie yesterday while folding laundry. it was that debra messing movie, "the wedding date". man, that was a sexy movie! to think… a woman hiring a hooker (the reverse of pretty woman) for a week to mask as her boyfriend. and for him (love dermont – another celeb crush that i have) to show up not just being handsome but knowing exactly what a woman wants and how a woman wants to be treated! *swoon*

crossing fingers that this week goes well and i get a lot done, so i can have another relaxing sunday this week!

cleaning obsession

well, i'll be. for the first time in our marriage history, we are actually cleaning the house not too long after it got cleaned the last time. in other words, we're cleaning at a regular interval… before it gets TOO visible from build up dust and grime.

i'm shocked.

but i think my obsession for cleaning is starting to spread. the other day, i cleaned out my purse. i organized all the receipts into two categories – tax receipts and regular receipts – and put the into each it's own respective envelopes. then i even dusted the inside of the purse out to rid of any lint, dust or pieces of paper torn off from its origin.

my work desk is spotless. and all the drawers are completely re-organized by projects and such.

my lcd monitor is even cleaner then the day i got it. and the keyboard? awesome. in fact, i've started to go and clean my co-workers' keyboards as well. it's not so bad when they aren't around but they don't like it when i do it while they are trying to type.

one day, i was sitting in the cafeteria at the one computer station (used for personal emails/surfing) and some one came in with an LCD-safe wipe. she asked if i wouldn't mind cleaning the screen and keyboard after i was done. i smiled and said i would be happy to, though i hid the excitement. when she left and i knew i was all alone, i franticaly went to work. and i REALLY worked at it. it was sparkling afterwards.

i then went back to my department and told my co-worker there what just happened. she's the only one that knows of my obsession because she's a clean-freak herself. of course, my obsession has surpassed hers so all she could do was look at me with an uncomfortable smile and be worried about me.

of course, if i had the choice, i would take off all the keys off the keyboard to clean deep inside as well.

it sort of bothers me that i can't do this. and the thought of what could be lurking under the keys haunts me at times. though, i try not to think about it on a daily basis.

i know. i need help.

it doesn't stop there either. but today, i woke up at 10am and instead of going down for a cup of coffee and toast like i normally would, i got up, went to the loo and immediately whipped out the lysol for our bathroom. that's what lead to all the other bathrooms in the house. as well as some dusting (a record! i dusted two weeks in a row!). doug also got the vacuum out and is in the process of finishing the final level.

i'm upstairs, lying on my bed as a much needed break. i'm looking around to see the view of freshly vacuumed carpet. you know when it's JUST vacuumed and you can still see the sweeping marks across the rug? yeah… i love it! in fact, doug did such a good job i feel almost turned on about it.

i've never wanted him more!

oh god… i really do need help.

ahh… that’s better!

so, this morning, while chaeli watched disney cars for the 386th time, i took 45 minutes to haul all our dvd movies from the t.v. unit to our new shelf! well… it actually probably only took 20 minutes in total to move and re-organize as the rest of the time was spent dusting. because once i started to dust our t.v. area, i ended up dusting the rest of the room. i can't leave things half finished. it irks me.

anyway… here it is!

i reserved almost an entire shelf at the the top for my entire F.R.I.E.N.D.S collection. all ten seasons! can you see? haha! they deserve to be at the top!

evidently, i watch it so much that chaeli's starting to learn the names of the characters. she says joey is her favourite because he's 'cool and funny!' :)

ahhh-kea!

yeah, i know. it's not THE most imaginative way to decorate one's house. but for those that lack the money nor the time/energy to REALLY design a house, it's quite easy to coordinate with ikea furniture. i have a friend who did just that and i have to admit, his place looks pretty good.

they had a no-tax sale so we headed over this morning so we could start our day with their $1 breakfast – scrambled eggs (which tastes good only if you have it with ketchup), 2 breakfast sausages (not bad), a croissant and an adequate serving of home fries (very yum!) another dollar more gets you coffee and/or milk. so for the three of us, after tax, it only came out to $6 and some change.

not bad at all.

but the real reason why we went was because we are in desperate need of a storage shelf for our dvd's. we have been cramming it in the bottom shelf of our mere, 2-shelf stand that we have our t.v. on upstairs. as we're going to shop for a new receiver to go with our dvd player and digital cable box, i figure we needed more room than our old ikea, entertainment stand could offer. it's hardly an entertainment stand, though. it was doug's during his bachelor years… but hey! it's white which matches the trim of our bedroom AND OUR NEW DVD/BOOK SHELF!

the glass door was an extra splurge. the shelf itself was only $49. but the glass door added another $60. it just makes it look more… adult. rather then like a college student type shelf.

anyway… after dinner, we're going to put it together and then i'll get a luxurious hour or so to organize our dvd's in alphabetical order. as well as a shelf or two just for chaeli's dvds. ahh… to get to organize… i'm almost feeling a buzz just thinking about it!

i am SO melting…

the broken-a/c-saga continues. it was suppose to cool off after the heatwave this past friday and saturday. and it did. yesterday, i was relieved as the temperature went up to 20 C but no higher. the evening was even cool enough so that we had to close some windows and use thicker blankets overnight. but then today happened. TODAY HAPPENED!

today… the temperature went up to 30 C. with the humidex, it was a sticky 38 C. which translates to 100 F for any americans reading this. 100-fucking-degrees-farenheit. what the hell! this is canada! this is fall weather we are SUPPOSE to have here!

i was annoyed. before it even reached 10am this morning, our house was nauseatingly stifling. we went to my aunt's house, across from us, who have a relatively new a/c installed. one of the better brands, actually, and extremely powerful. most days, i actually find their place TOO cold.

anyway… we went and had lunch with some relief. while we ate, i called and left a message for ada and hoa, praying they will let us seek refuge at their place. alas, they were not home and we hadn't realized, then, that they were hiking in hockley valley (a thanksgiving thing they do every year which i always forget).

i could have went down my list of other friends but we decided to head over to the big, monstrosity of a mall known as vaughan mills. i hate that mall. in fact, i hate most malls but i really hate that mall. but given that it was thanksgiving monday for us canadians here, most malls that were not recognized as a tourist attraction, would have been closed down.

we rationalized (or more like, persuaded ourselves) that there were a couple of items we needed to shop and compare prices for, so why not… the 20 or so minutes drive gave chaeli a chance to get a cat nap anyway.

god. i really do hate shopping malls. especially the ones like that of vaughan mills. so i'm sure you'll realize what torture it was for both doug and i (yes, he's in equal agreement with me when it comes to malls) what it was like for us to roam around there for four hours straight.

*sigh*

the only thing about it that turned out to be good was that we found a great christmas gift there for chaeli (from santa). something she actually can not use until spring time. which is good. with her birthday and christmas being so close together, she lacks anything new during spring, summer and fall – and therefore, too much at once during the winter months. i usually have to about half of her birthday gift so she would get something new during spring/summer. and getting gifts specifically for spring/sumer time is a bonus!

a little peace of serenity

we're in the middle of another heat-wave. or more… a humidity-wave. ether way, it's a little sticky today. with our broken a/c, i'm just glad that the evenings cool down enough for a peaceful sleep. though… tonight might prove challenging. though it will cool off, the heat from the afternoon high may still be trapped in our house.

last night, i decided to take a bath. almost a midnight bath… like the previous ones i've taken. but it was more like 11:30pm.

our bath is right next to two huge windows. the blinds were down but on one, i rolled it up just a little. enough to open the window and feel the cool, evening air, as i soaked a room-temperature bath. i was afraid of making a hot bath… the heat and steam would have surely made it uncomfortable in our bedroom for the rest of the night. really, the coolness of the water was inviting. i felt like i was skinny-dipping in an outdoor pool in such a temperature – plus feeling the outside air coming through and the fact that i had only a dim light coming from above the shower.

i soaked with the water up to my neck. and i turned my head so i could look out the window and into the dark sky.

a lot ran through my head then. i even remembered that i should email cathy something but by the time i pulled the plug to let the water out, i had simply forgotten anything that i had been pondering over.

isn't that bizarre? i can't remember what i was thinking about. only that i wanted to vox about my near-midnight bath.

it's as if a piece of time was stolen from me.
