a glimpse of my normal routine

i got to do my p90x this morning – yeay! :)

now that i have a better idea of when hobbes needs his outing, i can figure out when my ‘safe-workout’ period should be. true – it’s 15 minutes earlier, but i’ll find a way to adjust.

i’m also looking into doggy daycare.

yes, i know. scoff if you will. i was a scoffer too before owning a dog and now i scoff no more.

the greatness of doggy daycare should be taken advantage of when they can not hold their bladders for a full day. and i found a place that charges just a fraction of most places (it just means that i have to allow 10 minutes more traveling time each way per day i send him there.)

if i can get doggy daycare for either monday or friday; my aunt/uncle to take hobbes on the other day of that monday or friday; and then doug is home on wednesdays… that means i can go to the gym 3 times a week. monday, wednesdays and fridays. :) yeay!

the added bonus – hobbes will be getting his socialization met at this very influencial age. just like young children, it’s what helps to build their confidence amount different dogs and people. the first year is the most important – it sets their path for years to come.

after the first year of his life, we probably won’t need doggy daycare for more then once a week. most of these places also have grooming services so when it’s time for him to get a hair cut or nails clipped, we can kill two birds with one stone.

i know – all i’ve been talking about is hobbes lately. i promise in the near future, my posts will be about something else. :)

  1. I think "doggy daycare" sounds fabulous!! It would be nice, too, for days when you have appointments. I do not like having my puppy in the kennel for hours. I just feel terrible and she seems too young. People can scoff but you are doing what is best for you and your adorable dog!! Sounds wonderful. I would love to see pictures of hobbes at daycare if you can ever take any!

  2. yeah, i'm not sure about regular kennels either. what i like about this daycare is that included in the basic price, they provide three 30 min. outings a day, one play socialization with other dogs, and socialization with the employees. i.e. they do not just leave your dog caged up and only allow them to come out for potty breaks.
on top of that, you can also purchase additional services. leash walking around the area, extra cuddle time and all the different grooming services.
personally, i don't think hobbes will need anything more. we only need to give him a couple of playtimes a day and one walk – that does him in! cockapoo's are like that, though. anyway, even during doggy daycare, we would still give him his evening walk because we enjoy that as a family.

  3. That sounds wonderful. I would probably take advantage of the nail trimming service!! That is the one thing that seems not to get done here. My Meg is great about bathing the dogs. I have not quite figured out why she has taken that on as her responsibility but more power to her :) But the nails…ouch! I would love to have someone trim them once a week.

  4. i do hope it works out. :)
i have to wait another month for hobbes' rabies shot before he is fully vaccinated for daycare (or obedience school). makes sense – they have to be careful.
i don't know how crazy it is to get a dog in for a day. it's not like kids – we're you pay monthly or every two weeks and they get a spot guaranteed. it's sort of a pay as you go program.
of course, that works better for them – they wouldn't get business otherwise as a lot of people don't always know when they need doggy daycare.
anyway – the location i'm close to has 120 spots open. i would be surprised if they always have 120 pets there at a time. they say they are the busiest during long weekends, christmas and march break where families take their vacation.
